Mold Identifier – Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 30, 2026
Mold Identifier is designed to respect your privacy. Your scan photos, results, and history stay on your device. Mold Identifier does not run its own servers, does not create user accounts, and does not sell or share your data with third parties. To generate a scan result, your photo is sent to a third-party AI vision provider for one-time analysis, as described below.
What Mold Identifier collects
Mold Identifier is developed and operated by Foster Apps LLC. The app stores your scan photos, identification results, notes, and history on your device only.
Mold Identifier does not:
- Sell your data.
- Track you across other apps or websites.
- Use third-party advertising SDKs.
- Require an account or email address.
- Store your photos on any Foster Apps server.
How photo scanning works
When you scan a photo, the image (and any optional context notes you add, e.g. "near a leaky pipe") is sent directly to a third-party AI vision provider (Google Gemini) for one-time analysis to identify the likely mold species and risk tier. The photo is processed to generate your result and is not stored by Foster Apps on any server. Use of the AI provider is subject to that provider's own privacy terms.
Mold Identifier is a reference and awareness tool, not a diagnostic or medical device. Results are AI-generated estimates for informational purposes only and are not a substitute for a professional mold inspection.
On-device storage
Your scan photos, results, notes, and history are stored locally on your device using on-device storage. This data is not synced to iCloud or any Foster Apps server. Uninstalling the app or clearing app data will permanently remove it.
In-app purchases
Mold Identifier Pro is available as a subscription through Apple's App Store. All billing is handled by Apple. Mold Identifier never sees your payment details. Subscription management and cancellation are handled through your Apple ID settings.
Scan reports
When you export a scan report (Pro), it is generated entirely on your device. Mold Identifier does not upload your data to any server to produce the report. Sharing is handled by iOS's system share sheet — the data goes only to the destination you choose.
Support email
When you email support at support+moldid@fosterapps.com, the contents of your email are stored in your email provider's systems.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as Mold Identifier evolves. When it changes, the "Last updated" date at the top of the page will be revised. Significant changes may also be mentioned in release notes.
